Special Interest Group: Arts Assessment
Please join us for the 7th annual meeting of the Arts Assessment Special Interest Group. This meeting is open to anyone interested, but will be focused on visual and performing arts disciplines. A detailed agenda will be provided at the event.
Disciplines within the arts have a long history of conducting formative and summative assessments through portfolios, auditions, critique, jury, collaborative performances, film showcases, exhibitions, and other forms of review. Yet, the call for disciplines to articulate their effectiveness from policy makers, as well as the public, has inspired arts educators to refine existing models and discover precise tools for assessment. How do we translate qualitative results into numeric representations, for example; or how can we maintain our focus on individual, personalized assessment while moving toward aggregated summaries for the purpose of reporting? Our challenge is to translate what we do so that student learning can be demonstrated in accessible, yet meaningful, ways.
Hosted by: California College of the Arts, California Institute of the Arts, Laguna College of Arts & Design, and Otis College of Art & Design
