COLLEGE BEHIND BARS, directed by award-winning filmmaker Lynn Novick and executive produced by Ken Burns, tells the story of a small group of incarcerated men and women struggling to earn college degrees and turn their lives around in one of the most rigorous and effective prison education programs in the United States – the Bard Prison Initiative. Through the personal stories of the students and their families, the film reveals the transformative power of higher education and puts a human face on America’s criminal justice crisis.

DIRECTOR'S BIO: Lynn Novick is an American director and producer of documentary films, widely known for her work with Ken Burns. Her collaborations with Burns include The War (2007), Baseball: The Tenth Inning (2010), and Prohibition (2011), and The Vietnam War. Novick's most recent project is College Behind Bars, a four-part series first broadcast on PBS in 2019.
